Introduction to Dermal Fillers

Most of the visible signs of aging are traced back to volume loss and thinning tissue, with lines creating an etched look around your mouth, cheeks, and nose, giving you a hollow look. At RemedyNow Aesthetics, we help our Milwaukee-area patients combat this appearance with the use of Dermal Fillers! These fillers can replace lost volume which helps smooth out wrinkles, plump up your lips, and return you to a more natural youthful appearance.

At RemedyNow Aesthetics we pride ourselves on offering some of the best dermal filler results in Milwaukee while always practicing patient safety. Below is an overview of some of the many wonderful things that Dermal Fillers can do for you.

What are Dermal Fillers?

There are two kinds of Dermal fillers – Hyaluronic and Non-Hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring substance that is already found in your skin. It helps to keep the skin plump and hydrated. HA fillers are typically soft and gel-like. With aging, there is a loss of collagen, fat, and hyaluronic acid.

The HA fillers are injected beneath your skin to “plump up” areas that have lost volume and smoothness, such as lips and cheeks, and nasolabial folds. Over a million men and women elect to have this rejuvenation treatment performed every year. It is a non-surgical solution to many aging “problems” and can be completed in a single office visit. However multiple visits may be required to gradually obtain the desired goal and reduce the risk of complications and over-correction.

Some of the Commonly known HA fillers are:

  • Juvederm products
  • Restylane products
  • Belotero
  • Revanesse Versa.

Non-Hyaluronic acid fillers are substances that not only help in improving the loss of volume but also improve the texture of the skin. The majority of these fillers are longer lasting from 2-5 years.

Some of the examples of Non-Hyaluronic acid fillers in the USA are:

  • Radiesse
  • Sculptra
  • Bellafil

While devising an aesthetic solution for your concerns, your consulting clinician would discuss the merits of each of the different dermal fillers.

What are the Benefits of Dermal Fillers?

Even though most Fillers are used for wrinkles, they offer so many other benefits. Our Milwaukee dermal filler patients have used the non-surgical solution to treat some of these common issues:

  • Diminish vertical lip lines
  • Enhance & restore volume to sunken cheeks or temples
  • Even out chin creases
  • Improve symmetry among facial features
  • Plump & enhance the lips
  • Smooth out lines around the nose and mouth (a.k.a. marionette lines, smile lines, and parentheses)

Who are the Best Candidates for Dermal Fillers?

Any adult can be a good candidate for Dermal Fillers, however, the best candidates should be:

  • Committed to maintaining good skin health
  • Non-smoker
  • Physically healthy
  • Realistic and positive with their goals for the procedure

What’s the First Step?

The first step is to schedule your free, personal consultation with Dr. Siddiqui or with one of his clinical associates. During this appointment, the area of concern will be evaluated, and medical history including allergies and prior treatments would be obtained.

After the initial assessment, the treatment plan would be discussed, keeping in consideration your aesthetic concerns and goals. The choice of the dermal fillers, their indications, benefits, side effects, pretreatment and post-treatment instructions, and possible complications would be discussed in detail. The procedural strategy to address single or multiple areas on the face is discussed in detail. The details of the estimated cost would be shared.

After the assessment and treatment plan, you should be able to schedule your injection appointment.

What to Expect on the Day of Dermal Fillers?

On the day of the procedure, once you arrive in your procedure room, an informed consent is obtained by Dr. Siddiqui or by one of his clinical associates. Before procedure photos are obtained. You will be positioned comfortably on a procedure chair and the area of the face that needs treatment would be cleaned with an antiseptic solution. Dr. Siddiqui and his associates frequently use a blunt cannula to inject dermal fillers. The cannula technique reduces the pain but also decreases the trauma and bruising experienced by the patient during dermal filler treatments. The cannula also reduces the likelihood of complications like vascular occlusion from occurring during the injection and gives the injector more freedom and control over the filler material. A local anesthetic like lidocaine is used at the entry point for the cannula.

Once the dermal fillers are injected into the areas that need to the treated, a gentle massage is performed to evenly distribute the filler. When the injection process is complete, you may be given an ice pack to lightly hold against the treated areas to help with any swelling or bruising that comes with the procedure. Additional photos may be taken to compare before and after the procedure results.

Dermal Fillers Recovery

Once your treatment is complete, post-treatment expectations and instructions are shared with you in detail. You should avoid any strenuous activity for the first 24 – 48 hours. A follow-up appointment may be needed as well.

Dermal Fillers FAQs

Are Dermal Fillers painful?

Dermal Fillers are not very painful, however, some patients have expressed a pinching sensation from the needle insertion. In order to minimize discomfort, local anesthetic and blunt cannula are used. If you are worried about any pain, you can discuss this during your consultation and you could have the option of an applied anesthetic to make your experience more comfortable.

How many appointments will I need?

While you will be able to enjoy the results of your filler injections after 1 treatment, you may require more visits to continue to improve the results to reach your desired goal. The fillers can last anywhere between 6 months and 2 years. If you are interested in maintaining your appearance, then you will need to schedule follow-up appointments.

How long until I see results?

Dermal Fillers are instantaneous so you will be able to recognize the results immediately after your appointment. After 4 weeks when the filler is fully integrated into your tissue, the results will be more visible.

Can I combine Dermal Fillers with other procedures?

Dermal Fillers work great in combination with PDO threads to improve the loss of volume and loose skin. The PDO threads can lift the sagging skin and help build collagen as well. If you are interested in combining your Dermal Filler with PDO threads or other procedures like Botox, feel free to discuss this with Dr. Siddiqui or his associates during your consultation. They will be able to use their expertise to make the best suggestions to achieve your aesthetic goals.
