Introduction to Hair Restoration

Whether you’re a man or a woman, the loss or thinning of your hair is a very sensitive subject. While some patients feel it’s an uphill battle and decide to embrace their new look, many people aren’t ready to lose their locks. There are many products available on the market that can either cover up or even help your hair follicles regrow, but only if caught early on. Scientific research has found that with some mild stimulation and using the natural properties of the human body, there has been a very high success rate for achieving your full head of hair again. At RemedyNow in Milwaukee, WI, our team has helped so many of our patients regain their confidence with Hair Restoration. To learn more about what we offer and how you could benefit from the treatment, please keep reading below!

What is Hair Restoration?

Hair Restoration is a treatment that uses syringe injections of components taken from the human body that will stimulate your hair’s growth and encourage production when injected directly into your scalp. At RemedyNow, we are pleased to offer our patients two incredible options for creating hair growth, with PRP and Exosomes

PRP: Platelet-rich plasma is a concentrate of platelet-rich plasma protein produced from blood. PRP has a large concentration of more than 20 growth factors, helping tissue to heal and repair, and treat all types of skin issues. PRP injections trigger natural hair growth and maintain it by increasing blood supply to the hair follicle and increasing the thickness of the hair shaft.

This therapy is a three-step medical treatment where a person’s blood is drawn, processed in a centrifuge, and the PRP is then separated and injected into the scalp. This treatment is used when hair loss results from androgenetic alopecia, a common condition that causes hair follicles to shrink. In males, this is called male pattern baldness.

Exosomes: Exosomes are extracellular vesicles (meaning they exist outside of cells) produced by mesenchymal stem cells that are involved in cell communication. The signals that these exosomes produce can interact with other cells to trigger beneficial behavior changes. These exosomes are isolated from donated human amniotic mesenchymal stem cells and purified, but since they are stem cell-derived, they provide unique benefits thanks to the vast array of growth factors. Also, since exosomes are smaller and more nimble, they can travel throughout the bloodstream to carry multiple doses of proteins across barriers that were previously inaccessible to cells. Using more than 200 signaling proteins, the transfer of genetic information to cells within damaged tissues is possible and promotes survival and regeneration within the tissue cells.

What’s the First Step?

The first step in getting Hair Restoration in the Milwaukee area is to contact RemedyNow Aesthetics and schedule your consultation with Dr. Siddiqui or one of our skilled Aestheticians. You will be able to discuss your medical history, listen to your goals for the treatment, and examine your scalp to create the best treatment plan for you. If you agree with the treatment plan, you can schedule your treatment date with our Patient Coordinator, who will also provide you with some directions to follow before you come back.

What to Expect on the Day of Hair Restoration

Depending on which technique you and your provider choose, you may have a slightly different experience, but it should be mostly similar to the following experience.

When you come into our office for your first appointment, we will make you comfortable in our reclining chair and numb the treated areas with either a cold compress or topical cream. If you are receiving PRP, your blood will be drawn and placed into a centrifuge that will separate the PRP from the rest of your blood. Once this is finished, the technician will inject the freshly removed PRP into strategic locations on your scalp. If you are getting exosome injections, we will have that already prepared and ready to be injected into strategic locations.

This process will take about 45 minutes to complete.

Hair Restoration Recovery

Thankfully, there isn’t any recovery involved with Hair Restoration. You will be able to shower and wash your hair as soon as getting home, although you should be gentle. We highly advise against applying any ice packs to your scalp because the cold can inhibit PRP or Exosome activity. If you are experiencing any soreness, you should just take over-the-counter pain medication as directed.

You will notice that the first few hours after your session that your scalp is a little pink or red across the treatment area. You should also wait one or two days before returning to your usual hair maintenance, such as blow drying, coloring, curling, etc.

Hair Restoration FAQS

Is Hair Restoration painful?

Not at all! This treatment is designed to be as painless and comfortable as possible. Some patients may experience some very mild pain or discomfort during the withdrawal or injection portions of the treatment, but you will be provided some sort of numbing agent that will make this a very easy process. When you come in for your consultation, you will be able to discuss the numbing options with your technician.

How many appointments will I need?

To see the best results from your Hair Restoration, you should expect to have at least three to five sessions. These sessions will be separated by a four to six-week period to allow full results from your last session to take effect. Once you are finished with your required sessions, you will be asked to return once or twice a year to maintain your results.

How long until I see results?

Most of our patients can see results from their treatment as soon as two weeks following their first injections. Even though it won’t be the most dramatic change, you will at least be able to see some visible changes. If you continue to get injections and follow our post-session suggestions, you should be able to recognize the incredible changes after a four to six-month period.

Can I combine Hair Restoration with other procedures?

Absolutely! Now that you’re restoring your hair to its former glory, you may choose to have additional rejuvenation treatments. Some of the more popular ones amongst our Milwaukee patients include BOTOX or Dermal Fillers for an overall fresher and more youthful appearance. When you come in for your consultation, please inform your provider that you are interested in additional services and they will be more than happy to discuss what we offer and the best options to meet your goals.

What are the risks associated with Hair Restoration?

Since we are using injectables that are naturally found inside of you, there are very minimal negative results, but there are still some potential side effects associated with the treatment, such as:
  • Allergic reactions
  • Blood vessel injury
  • Body rejection of injection (rare)
  • Dizziness
  • Infection during healing
  • Injury to the nerves
  • Nausea
  • Pain and bleeding at the injection site
  • Scar tissue development
Any of these reactions should be minimal and most should disappear within a day or so. If you are experiencing any concerning or longer-lasting reactions, please contact us right away.
